यत्रायं निहतः शेते रणमूर्धनि लक्ष्मणः ।
देशे देशे कलत्राणि देशो देशे च बान्धवाः ॥६-१०२-१२॥
yatrāyaṃ nihataḥ śete raṇamūrdhani lakṣmaṇaḥ |
deśe deśe kalatrāṇi deśo deśe ca bāndhavāḥ ॥6-102-12॥
Translation
While Lakshmana lies here slain at the front of the battle, (I reflect that) wives can be found in every country, and relatives can be found in every land—

जहाँ युद्ध के अग्रभाग में यह लक्ष्मण धराशायी होकर पड़ा है, वहाँ (मैं यह सोचता हूँ कि) देश-देश में पत्नियाँ मिल सकती हैं और हर देश में सम्बन्धी मिल सकते हैं—
English Commentary
This is a very famous and philosophical verse in the Ramayana. Shri Rama underscores the uniqueness of a uterine brother and a selfless companion. While other worldly relationships might be replaced, a brother born of the same womb and a loyal ally like Lakshmana is irreplaceable. This lament is Shri Rama's highest tribute to Lakshmana's unparalleled dedication.

यह श्री रामायण का एक अत्यंत प्रसिद्ध और दार्शनिक श्लोक है। श्री राम यहाँ 'सहोदर भाई' की अद्वितीयता को रेखांकित कर रहे हैं। यद्यपि संसार में अन्य सम्बन्ध पुनः प्राप्त किए जा सकते हैं, किन्तु एक ही कोख से जन्मा भाई और लक्ष्मण जैसा निस्वार्थ साथी दोबारा नहीं मिल सकता। यह विलाप लक्ष्मण जी के अद्वितीय समर्पण के प्रति श्री राम का सर्वोच्च सम्मान है।
