दीर्घायुषस्तु ये मर्त्यास्तेषां तु मुखमीद्दशम् ।
नायं प्रेतत्वमापन्नो लक्ष्मणो लक्ष्मिवर्धनः ॥६-१०२-१८॥
dīrghāyuṣastu ye martyāsteṣāṃ tu mukhamīddhaśam |
nāyaṃ pretatvamāpanno lakṣmaṇo lakṣmivardhanaḥ ॥6-102-18॥
Translation
The faces of mortals who are destined for a long life appear just like this. This Lakshmana, the enhancer of grace, has certainly not attained death.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जो मनुष्य दीर्घायु होते हैं, उनका मुख ऐसा ही होता है। शोभा को बढ़ाने वाले ये लक्ष्मण निश्चित ही मृत्यु (प्रेतत्व) को प्राप्त नहीं हुए हैं।
English Commentary
Sushena makes a prediction based on physiognomy ('Samudrika Shastra'). The word 'Dirghayushah' (long-lived) is an assurance of Lakshmana's glorious future. He repeatedly uses the epithet 'Lakshmivardhanah' to dispel the inauspicious atmosphere. This verse is entirely dedicated to providing comfort and establishing the truth of Lakshmana's survival.

सुषेण यहाँ सामुद्रिक शास्त्र (शरीर विज्ञान) के आधार पर भविष्यवाणी कर रहे हैं। 'दीर्घायुषः' शब्द लक्ष्मण जी के यशस्वी भविष्य का आश्वासन है। वे बार-बार 'लक्ष्मिवर्धनः' विशेषण का प्रयोग कर रहे हैं ताकि वातावरण से अमंगल का प्रभाव समाप्त हो सके। यह श्लोक पूर्णतः सांत्वना और सत्य की स्थापना के लिए समर्पित है।
