अयं स समरश्लाघी भ्राता मे शुभलक्षणः ।
यदि पञ्चत्वमापन्नः प्राणैर्मे किं सुखेन च ॥६-१०२-५॥
ayaṃ sa samaraślāghī bhrātā me śubhalakṣaṇaḥ |
yadi pañcatvamāpannaḥ prāṇairme kiṃ sukhena ca ॥6-102-5॥
Translation
If this brother of mine, who is praiseworthy in battle and endowed with auspicious marks, has attained death, then what use is my life or happiness?
हिंदी अनुवाद
यह युद्ध में प्रशंसा पाने योग्य और शुभ लक्षणों वाला मेरा भाई यदि मृत्यु को प्राप्त हो गया, तो मेरे प्राणों, राज्य या सुख से क्या प्रयोजन?
English Commentary
Shri Rama's lamentation represents the height of detachment from material success. He makes it clear that without Lakshmana, the conquest of Lanka or the kingdom of Ayodhya is meaningless. The term 'Shubhalakshanah' indicates the divine and auspicious nature of Lakshmana. Here, Shri Rama's fraternal love is so intense that He contemplates abandoning even His divine mission of restoring Dharma.

श्री राम का यह विलाप वैराग्य की पराकाष्ठा है। वे स्पष्ट करते हैं कि लक्ष्मण जी के बिना उनके लिए लंका की विजय या अयोध्या का राज्य अर्थहीन है। 'शुभलक्षणः' शब्द यह संकेत देता है कि लक्ष्मण जी का व्यक्तित्व दिव्य था। यहाँ श्री राम का भ्रातृ-प्रेम इतना प्रबल है कि वे धर्म-संस्थापन के अपने ईश्वरीय कार्य को भी अधूरा छोड़ने की बात करने लगते हैं।
