अब्रवीच्च तदा रामं सप्रतोदो रथे स्थितः ।
प्राञ्जलिर्मातलिर्वाक्यं सहस्राक्षस्य सारथिः ॥६-१०३-१०॥
abravīcca tadā rāmaṃ sapratodo rathe sthitaḥ |
prāñjalirmātalirvākyaṃ sahasrākṣasya sārathiḥ ॥6-103-10॥
Translation
Then, seated in the chariot holding the whip, Matali, the charioteer of the thousand-eyed Indra, with folded hands spoke these words to Shri Rama.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब रथ में बैठे हुए, हाथ में चाबुक लिए, सहस्राक्ष (इंद्र) के सारथी मातलि ने हाथ जोड़कर श्री राम से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
The 'pratoda' (whip) in the charioteer's hand is his authority, but the 'pranjali' (folded hands) is his devotion. Matali knows whom he has come to serve—the Avatar of Vishnu himself. This is a beautiful confluence of power and humility.
हिंदी टीका
सारथी के हाथ में 'प्रतोद' (चाबुक) उसका अधिकार है, किन्तु 'प्रांजलि' (हाथ जोड़ना) उसकी भक्ति है। मातलि जानते हैं कि वे किसके सारथी बनने आए हैं—स्वयं विष्णु के अवतार के। यह शक्ति और विनम्रता का सुंदर संगम है।
