तान् दृष्ट्वा पन्नगान् रामः समापतत आहवे ।
अस्त्रं गारुत्मतं घोरं प्रादुश्चके भयावहम् ॥६-१०३-२१॥
tān dṛṣṭvā pannagān rāmaḥ samāpatata āhave |
astraṃ gārutmataṃ ghoraṃ prāduścakre bhayāvaham ॥6-103-21॥
Translation
Seeing those serpents arriving in the battle, Shri Rama invoked the terrible and fearful 'Garutmata' (Garuda) weapon.
हिंदी अनुवाद
युद्ध में उन सर्पों को आते देख, श्री राम ने भयानक और (शत्रुओं के लिए) भय उत्पन्न करने वाले 'गारुत्मत' (गरुड़) अस्त्र को प्रकट किया।
English Commentary
The natural enemy of serpents is Garuda (the divine eagle). Shri Rama chose the appropriate weapon. The 'Garutmata Astra' is the invocation of Lord Garuda. Just as Garuda devours snakes, this weapon was meant to destroy Ravana's illusion. This displays Shri Rama's presence of mind.
हिंदी टीका
सर्पों का प्राकृतिक शत्रु गरुड़ है। श्री राम ने उचित अस्त्र का चयन किया। 'गारुत्मत अस्त्र' गरुड़ देव का आह्वान है। जैसे गरुड़ सर्पों को खाता है, वैसे ही यह अस्त्र रावण की माया को नष्ट करने के लिए था। यह श्री राम की प्रत्युत्पन्नमति (presence of mind) को दर्शाता है।
