Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
खगाश्च खरनिर्घोषा गगने परुषा घनाः ।
औत्पातिकानि नर्दन्तः समन्तात् परिचक्रमुः ॥६-१०४-३॥
khagāśca kharanirghoṣā gagane paruṣā ghanāḥ |
autpātikāni nardantaḥ samantāt paricakramuḥ ॥6-104-3॥
Translation
In the sky, birds made harsh sounds, and ominous clouds gathered. Roaring/thundering with portents of calamity, they hovered all around.
हिंदी अनुवाद
आकाश में पक्षी कठोर (अप्रिय) शब्द करने लगे और रूखे (भयानक) बादल छा गए। वे उत्पातसूचक गर्जना करते हुए चारों ओर मंडराने लगे।
English Commentary
These are 'autpātikāni'—omens of calamity. The harsh sounds of birds and the menacing clouds ('paruṣā ghanāḥ') create an atmosphere of doom. In epic literature, such celestial and atmospheric disturbances invariably precede the fall of a great warrior or a massive slaughter.

यह श्लोक अपशकुनों (उत्पातों) का वर्णन करता है। पक्षियों का 'खरनिर्घोषा' (कठोर आवाज) करना और आकाश में भयानक बादलों का छाना आने वाले विनाश की सूचना है। युद्ध के निर्णायक क्षणों में प्रकृति प्रायः ऐसे संकेत देती है जो यह बताते हैं कि अब महासंहार निकट है।
