स शोणित समादिग्धः समरे लक्ष्मणाग्रजः ।
दृष्टः फुल्ल इवारण्ये सुमहान् किंशुकद्रुमः ॥६-१०५-७॥
sa śoṇita samādigdhaḥ samare lakṣmaṇāgrajaḥ |
dṛṣṭaḥ phulla ivāraṇye sumahān kiṃśukadrumaḥ ॥6-105-7॥
Translation
In the battle, Shri Rama, the elder brother of Lakshmana, smeared with blood, looked as magnificent as a large, blossoming Kinshuka (Palasha) tree in the forest.

युद्ध में रक्त से सने हुए लक्ष्मण के बड़े भाई श्री राम ऐसे सुशोभित हो रहे थे, जैसे वन में खिला हुआ कोई विशाल पलाश (किंशुक) का वृक्ष हो।
English Commentary
This is an extremely famous poetic metaphor in the Valmiki Ramayana. Comparing the red blood on Shri Rama's dark complexion to the red blossoms of the 'Kinshuka' tree highlights the aesthetic beauty of His valor. The word 'Phullah' (blossoming) suggests that the battle is not a burden for Him but a manifestation of divine play and glory. This scene generates an auspicious splendor even amidst destruction.
