आतपी मण्डली मृत्युः पिङ्गलः सर्वतापनः ।
कविर्विश्वो महातेजा रक्तः सर्वभवोद्भवः ॥६-१०७-१४॥
ātapī maṇḍalī mṛtyuḥ piṅgalaḥ sarvatāpanaḥ |
kavirviśvo mahātejā raktaḥ sarvabhavodbhavaḥ ॥6-107-14॥
Translation
"He is the radiator of heat, possessed of a disk, Death itself, tawny-colored, the scorcher of all, the wise seer (Kavi), the universe itself, of great splendor, red-hued, and the origin of all existence."
हिंदी अनुवाद
ये आतपी (घाम वाले), मण्डली (गोलाकार बिम्ब वाले), मृत्यु, पिंगल (भूरे रंग वाले), सबको तपाने वाले, कवि (क्रांतदर्शी), विश्वस्वरूप, महातेजस्वी, रक्तवर्ण और सबकी उत्पत्ति के कारण हैं।
English Commentary
The duality of creation and destruction is stark here. He is the 'Origin of all' ('Sarvabhavodbhavah') but also 'Mrityu' (Death). Describing him as 'Kavi' means he is the omniscient seer. For Shri Rama, invoking the 'Death' aspect of the Sun is vital to deal the final blow to Ravana.
