Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तदोपोढं महद्युद्धमन्योन्यवधकाङ्क्षिणोः ।
परस्पराभिमुखयोर्दृप्तयोरिव सिंहयोः ॥६-१०८-१८॥
tadōpōḍhaṃ mahadyuddhamanyonyavadhakāṅkṣiṇōḥ |
parasparābhimukhayordṛptayōriva siṃhayōḥ ॥6-108-18॥
Translation
Then commenced that great battle between the two who desired each other's death. Facing one another, they appeared like two proud lions locked in combat.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब एक-दूसरे के वध की इच्छा रखने वाले उन दोनों के बीच वह महान युद्ध छिड़ गया। वे दोनों एक-दूसरे के सामने वैसे ही डटे थे, जैसे दो घमंडी (पराक्रमी) सिंह भिड़ रहे हों।
English Commentary
The lion analogy manifests the royal valor and indomitable courage of the warriors. The phrase 'desiring each other's death' indicates the final stage of the war where there was no longer any room for negotiation or retreat. It was a face-to-face conflict between two supreme powers. At stake were both personal honor and the future of the entire cosmos.

सिंह की उपमा योद्धाओं की राजसी वीरता और उनके अदम्य साहस को प्रकट करती है। 'अन्योन्यवधकाङ्क्षिणौ' शब्द युद्ध की उस अंतिम अवस्था को दर्शाता है जहाँ अब संधि या पीछे हटने की कोई गुंजाइश नहीं थी। यह दो शिखर शक्तियों का आमने-सामने का संघर्ष था। यहाँ दोनों ओर की प्रतिष्ठा और ब्रह्मांड का भविष्य दांव पर लगा था।
