सन्ध्यया चावृता लङ्का जपापुष्पनिकाशया ।
दृश्यते सम्प्रदीप्तेव दिवसे ऽपि वसुन्धरा ॥६-१०८-२३॥
sandhyayā cāvṛtā laṅkā japāpuṣpanikāśayā |
dṛśyatē sampradīptēva divasē ऽ pi vasundharā ॥6-108-23॥
Translation
Lanka was enveloped in a twilight as red as the Hibiscus flower. Even during the day, the earth appeared as if it were blazing with fire.
हिंदी अनुवाद
लंकापुरी जपा (गुड़हल) के फूल के समान लाल संध्या की आभा से घिर गई थी। दिन में भी पृथ्वी ऐसी लग रही थी मानो सब ओर आग लगी हो।
English Commentary
The analogy to the Hibiscus flower ('Japa-pushpa') signifies both bloodshed and the fire of destruction. The appearance of twilight during the day is a portent of the breakdown of natural laws. This 'bloody twilight' announced the sunset of Ravana's reign. Lanka's golden vista had transformed into the terrifying image of a burning ember.

जपा पुष्प की उपमा रक्तपात और विनाश की अग्नि को सूचित करती है। दिन में संध्या जैसी लालिमा का छाना (दिवसे अपि) प्राकृतिक व्यवस्था के टूटने का प्रतीक है। यह 'रक्त-संध्या' रावण के शासन के सूर्यास्त की सूचना थी। लंका का वह स्वर्णमय दृश्य अब एक जलते हुए अंगारे के समान भयावह हो चुका था।
