Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सनिर्घाता महोल्काश्च सम्प्रचेरुर्महास्वनाः ।
विषादयंस्ते रक्षांसि रावणस्य तदा ऽहिताः ॥६-१०८-२४॥
sanirghātā mahōlkāśca sampracērur mahāsvanāḥ |
viṣādayantē rakṣāṃsi rāvaṇasya tadā ऽ hitāḥ ॥6-108-24॥
Translation
Accompanied by thunderclaps, huge meteors fell with tremendous noise. They distressed and terrified the Rakshasas who were the well-wishers of Ravana.

भयंकर शब्द के साथ बिजली कड़कने लगी और विशाल उल्कापिंड गिरने लगे। वे रावण के हितैषी राक्षसों को अत्यंत दुखी और भयभीत कर रहे थे।
English Commentary
The falling of meteors ('Ulka') is an ancient sign of imperial destruction. The sound of thunderclaps ('Nirghata') was the roar of death for the Rakshasas. The word 'Vishadayante' reflects their collapsing self-confidence. They realized that their king's fortune was no longer with him. This scene was a universal proclamation of the annihilation of unrighteousness.

उल्कापात (गिरते तारे) राजकीय विनाश का प्राचीनतम संकेत है। 'निर्घात' (बिजली की कड़क) का स्वर राक्षसों के लिए काल की गर्जना थी। 'विषादयन्ते' शब्द उनके टूटते हुए आत्मविश्वास को दर्शाता है। वे समझ चुके थे कि उनके राजा का भाग्य अब उनके पक्ष में नहीं था। यह दृश्य अधर्म के विनाश की सार्वभौमिक घोषणा थी।
