ततः प्रवृत्तं सुक्रूरं रामरावणयोस्तदा ।
सुमहद्द्वैरथं युद्धं सर्वलोकभयावहम् ॥६-१०९-१॥
tataḥ pravṛttaṃ sukrūraṃ rāmarāvaṇayostadā |
sumahaddvairathaṃ yuddhaṃ sarvalokabhayāvaham ॥6-109-1॥
Translation
Then, at that time, a highly cruel and great chariot-duel (dvairatha) began between Shri Rama and Ravana, which caused terror to all the worlds.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तदनन्तर, उस समय श्री राम और रावण के बीच अत्यंत क्रूर और महान 'द्वैरथ' (रथों का) युद्ध आरंभ हुआ, जो समस्त लोकों को भयभीत करने वाला था।
English Commentary
Maharishi Valmiki establishes the intensity of the final phase of the great war through this verse. 'Dvairatha' refers to a duel fought between two chariot-warriors. It is described as 'sarvalokabhayavaham', implying that the conflict was not limited to the earth alone; its impact and terror permeated all three worlds (Heaven, Earth, and the Netherworld). This was the ultimate clash between Dharma and Adharma.

महर्षि वाल्मीकि इस श्लोक के माध्यम से महायुद्ध के अंतिम चरण की भीषणता को स्थापित करते हैं। 'द्वैरथ' का अर्थ है वह युद्ध जो दो रथी योद्धाओं के बीच होता है। इसे 'सर्वलोकभयावहम्' कहा गया है, जिसका तात्पर्य है कि यह संघर्ष केवल पृथ्वी तक सीमित नहीं था, बल्कि इसका प्रभाव और भय तीनों लोकों (स्वर्ग, पृथ्वी, पाताल) में व्याप्त हो गया था। यह धर्म और अधर्म के बीच अंतिम टकराव था।
