ते विद्धा हरयस्तत्र नास्खलन्नापि बभ्रमुः ।
बभूवुः स्वस्थहृदयाः पद्मनालैरिवाहताः ॥६-१०९-१५॥
te viddhā harayastatra nāskhalannāpi babhramuḥ |
babhūvuḥ svasthahṛdayāḥ padmanālairivāhatāḥ ॥6-109-15॥
Translation
Those horses, though pierced there, neither stumbled nor wandered. They remained composed as if struck by lotus stalks.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे घोड़े वहां (बाणों से) विद्ध होने पर भी न तो लड़खड़ाए और न ही भटके। वे ऐसे स्वस्थ चित्त (शांत) रहे मानो उन्हें कमल की नालों से मारा गया हो।
English Commentary
These were divine horses driven by Matali. Ravana's fiery arrows proved as soft as 'lotus stalks' (padmanala) to them. This simile beautifully expresses the divinity and endurance of the horses. Ravana's attack was ineffective.
हिंदी टीका
ये दिव्य घोड़े थे, जिनका संचालन मातलि कर रहे थे। रावण के अग्निबाण उनके लिए 'कमल की नाल' (पद्मनाल) जैसे कोमल सिद्ध हुए। यह उपमा घोड़ों की दिव्यता और सहनशक्ति को बहुत सुंदरता से व्यक्त करती है। रावण का प्रहार निष्फल रहा।
