Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
सम्प्रयुद्धौ ततो दृष्ट्वा बलवन्नरराक्षसौ ।
व्याक्षिप्तहृदयाः सर्वे परं विस्मयमागताः ॥६-१०९-३॥
samprayuddhau tato dṛṣṭvā balavannararākṣasau |
vyākṣiptahṛdayāḥ sarve paraṃ vismayamāgatāḥ ॥6-109-3॥
Translation
Seeing those two powerful beings, the man (Shri Rama) and the Rakshasa (Ravana), engaged in battle, the hearts of all were distracted, and they were filled with supreme astonishment.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उन बलवान नर (श्री राम) और राक्षस (रावण) को युद्ध में भिड़े हुए देखकर, उन सभी (सैनिकों) के हृदय व्याकुल हो गए और वे परम विस्मय को प्राप्त हुए।
English Commentary
The term 'vyakshiptahridayah' (distracted or scattered minds) is used to describe the mental state of the soldiers. They forgot their own enmity and were lost in this extraordinary spectacle. It was natural for them to be astonished seeing such an equal and fierce battle between a human and a Rakshasa.

यहाँ 'व्याक्षिप्तहृदयाः' (बिखरे हुए या विचलित चित्त वाले) शब्द का प्रयोग सैनिकों की मानसिक स्थिति को बताने के लिए किया गया है। वे अपनी शत्रुता भूलकर केवल इस अद्भुत दृश्य में खो गए थे। एक मानव और एक राक्षस के बीच ऐसा समान और भीषण युद्ध देखकर उनका आश्चर्यचकित होना स्वाभाविक था।
