ततः क्रोधाद्दशग्रीवः शरान् सन्धाय वीर्यवान् ।
मुमोच ध्वजमुद्दिश्य राघवस्य रथे स्थितम् ॥६-१०९-८॥
tataḥ krodhāddaśagrīvaḥ śarān sandhāya vīryavān |
mumoca dhvajamuddiśya rāghavasya rathe sthitam ॥6-109-8॥
Translation
Then, the energetic Ten-necked one (Ravana), in anger, fixed arrows and released them aiming at the flag positioned on Raghava's chariot.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब वीर्यवान दशग्रीव ने क्रोधपूर्वक बाणों का संधान करके राघव के रथ पर स्थित ध्वजा को लक्ष्य करके छोड़ा।
English Commentary
In warfare, striking down the enemy's flag (Dhvaja) is akin to attacking their honor. Ravana aimed at the flag on Shri Rama's chariot before targeting Shri Rama himself. This was a psychological warfare tactic intended to lower Shri Rama's morale.
हिंदी टीका
युद्ध में शत्रु की ध्वजा (झंडा) गिराना उसके सम्मान को चोट पहुँचाने जैसा होता है। रावण ने श्री राम को सीधा निशाना बनाने से पहले उनके रथ की ध्वजा पर प्रहार किया। यह एक मनोवैज्ञानिक युद्ध नीति थी ताकि श्री राम का मनोबल गिराया जा सके।
