गन्धर्वाप्सरसां सङ्घा दृष्ट्वा युद्धमनूपमम् ।
गगनं गगनाकारं सागरः सागरोपमः ॥६-११०-२३॥
gandharvāpsarasāṃ saṅghā dṛṣṭvā yuddhamanūpamam |
gaganaṃ gaganākāraṃ sāgaraḥ sāgaropamaḥ ॥6-110-23॥
Translation
Groups of Gandharvas and Apsaras, seeing that incomparable battle, (said)—"Just as the sky is like the sky (in vastness) and the ocean is like the ocean (in depth)..."
हिंदी अनुवाद
गंधर्वों और अप्सराओं के समूहों ने उस अनुपम युद्ध को देखकर (कहा)—"जैसे आकाश आकाश के ही समान (विशाल) है और सागर सागर के ही समान (गहरा) है..."
English Commentary
This is one of the most famous similes in the Ramayana (read with the next verse). The poet asserts that the sky and the ocean cannot be compared to anything else; they are their own standards of comparison (Ananvaya Alankara).

यह श्री रामायण की सबसे प्रसिद्ध उपमाओं में से एक है (अगले श्लोक के साथ मिलकर)। कवि कहना चाहते हैं कि आकाश और सागर की उपमा किसी और से नहीं दी जा सकती, वे स्वयं अपने उपमान हैं (अनन्वय अलंकार)।
