Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
नन्दनं वानरेन्द्राणां रक्षसामवसादनम् ।
वाजितं विविधैर्वाजैश्चारुचित्रैर्गरुत्मतः ॥६-१११-१२॥
nandanaṃ vānarendrāṇāṃ rakṣasāmavasādanam |
vājitaṃ vividhairvājaiścārucitrairgarutmataḥ ॥6-111-12॥
Translation
Causing joy to the monkey leaders, causing destruction/despair to the Rakshasas; feathered with various beautiful and colorful feathers of Garuda.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वानर यूथपतियों को आनंद देने वाला (नन्दनं), राक्षसों को विषाद (दुःख/नाश) देने वाला और गरुड़ के विचित्र एवं सुंदर पंखों से युक्त (वाजित) था।
English Commentary
The duality of war is captured here: joy for the victors ('nandanaṃ') and doom for the vanquished ('avasādanam'). The arrow is fletched with feathers of Garuda ('garutmataḥ'), signifying speed, divinity, and the natural enmity towards serpents (evil).
हिंदी टीका
जहाँ यह बाण राक्षसों के लिए काल है, वहीं वानरों के लिए 'नन्दनं' (आनंददायक) है, क्योंकि यह उनकी विजय सुनिश्चित करेगा। इसमें 'गरुत्मतः' (गरुड़) के पंख लगे हैं, जो विष्णु के वाहन हैं, अतः इसमें गरुड़ जैसा वेग और सर्प-नाशक शक्ति निहित है।
