धृतिप्रवालः प्रसहाग्र्यपुष्पस्तपोबलः शौर्यनिबद्धमूलः ।
रणे महान् राक्षसराजवृक्षः सम्मर्दितो राघवमारुतेन ॥६-११२-१०॥
dhṛtipravālaḥ prasahāgryapuṣpastapobalaḥ śauryanibaddhamūlaḥ |
raṇe mahān rākṣasarājavṛkṣaḥ sammardito rāghavamārutena ॥6-112-10॥
Translation
With fortitude as its young shoots, endurance as its excellent blossoms, penance as its strength, and valor as its deep roots, this great tree of the King of Demons has been crushed in battle by the gale that is the Scion of Raghu (Shri Rama).
हिंदी अनुवाद
धैर्य जिसके नवीन पल्लव (कोमल पत्ते) थे, हठ जिसका श्रेष्ठ पुष्प था, तपस्या जिसका बल था और शौर्य जिसकी गहरी जड़ें थीं, ऐसा यह महान राक्षसराज रूपी वृक्ष युद्ध में श्रीश्री राम रूपी आंधी द्वारा उखाड़ दिया गया।
English Commentary
This verse employs an elaborate metaphor depicting Ravana as a mighty tree. His fortitude (dhriti) formed the shoots, his persistence (prasaha) the flowers, his ascetic merit (tapas) the strength, and his valor (shaurya) the roots. Despite such a formidable composition, the tree could not withstand the 'Raghava-Maruta'—the tempest that is Shri Rama. It poetically illustrates that even a life cultivated with great penance and valor is uprooted when it confronts the supreme force of righteousness.

यह एक अत्यंत सुन्दर रूपक (Metaphor) है। विभीषण रावण के पूरे जीवन को एक वृक्ष की भांति देखते हैं। उसकी जड़ें 'शौर्य' में थीं और उसका खाद-पानी 'तपस्या' था, जिससे वह इतना विशाल बना। किन्तु 'राघवमारुतेन'—श्री राम रूपी पवन के झोंके ने इस विशाल वृक्ष को धराशायी कर दिया। यह दर्शाता है कि तप और शौर्य भी यदि अधर्म के साथ हों, तो वे ईश्वरीय शक्ति (श्री राम) के वेग के सामने नहीं टिक सकते।
