योऽयं विमर्देषु न भग्नपूर्वः सुरैः समेतैः सह वासवेन ।
भवन्तमासाद्य रणे विभग्नो वेलामिवासाद्य यथा समुद्रः ॥६-११२-२२॥
yo'yaṃ vimardeṣu na bhagnapūrvaḥ suraiḥ sametaiḥ saha vāsavena |
bhavantamāsādya raṇe vibhagno velāmivāsādya yathā samudraḥ ॥6-112-22॥
Translation
He (Ravana) who was never defeated before in battles even by the gods united with Indra, has broken upon encountering you in battle, just as the ocean breaks upon reaching the shore.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यह (रावण) जो इंद्र सहित समस्त देवताओं के साथ हुए युद्धों में पहले कभी पराजित नहीं हुआ था, (आज) आपको रणभूमि में पाकर वैसे ही टूट गया (हार गया) जैसे समुद्र तट को पाकर बिखर जाता है।
English Commentary
Vibhishana acknowledges Shri Rama's superior might using a powerful simile. Ravana is compared to the vast, raging ocean that remained unchecked by gods (Vasavena). Shri Rama is compared to the shore (vela). No matter how furious the ocean, it is tamed and broken by the immovable shore. This signifies that Shri Rama is the ultimate boundary and authority against whom even the most unbridled forces of chaos must eventually submit.

विभीषण पुनः श्री राम की महिमा का गान करते हैं। रावण, जो देवताओं के लिए भी अजेय था, श्री राम के सामने ऐसे विफल हुआ जैसे समुद्र की लहरें तट से टकराकर चूर-चूर हो जाती हैं। यह उपमा ('वेलामिव... समुद्रः') अत्यंत सुंदर है। समुद्र (रावण) विशाल और शक्तिशाली है, किन्तु तट (श्री राम) अचल और दृढ़ है। यह श्री राम की स्थिरता और शक्ति की सर्वोच्चता को सिद्ध करता है।
