स तस्य वाक्यैः करुणैर्महात्मा सम्बोधितः साधु विभीषणेन ।
आज्ञापयामास नरेन्द्रसूनुः स्वर्गीयमाधानमदीनसत्त्वः ॥६-११२-२५॥
sa tasya vākyaiḥ karuṇairmahātmā sambodhitaḥ sādhu vibhīṣaṇena |
ājñāpayāmāsa narendrasūnuḥ svargīyamādhānamadīnasattvaḥ ॥6-112-25॥
Translation
Being addressed well with those piteous words by Vibhishana, the high-souled Prince (Shri Rama), of undepressed spirit, commanded the performance of the funeral rites leading to heaven.
हिंदी अनुवाद
विभीषण द्वारा उन करुणायुक्त वचनों से भली-भांति संबोधित किए जाने पर, उदार मन वाले महात्मा राजकुमार (श्री राम) ने (रावण के) स्वर्ग-प्राप्ति के लिए आवश्यक अग्नि-संस्कार (दाह संस्कार) की आज्ञा दी।
English Commentary
Shri Rama, described as mahatma (great soul), responds with characteristic grace. He is unmoved by petty enmity (adinasattvah). Upon hearing Vibhishana's plea, he authorizes the rites meant to guide the soul to heaven (svargiyam). This act cements Shri Rama's reputation as Maryada Purushottam—he does not carry hatred beyond the battlefield. He grants the enemy the dignity of a proper Vedic farewell.

श्री राम 'महात्मा' और 'अदीनसत्त्व' (उदार और कभी न दबने वाले मन वाले) हैं। विभीषण की करुण पुकार सुनकर श्री राम ने तुरंत रावण के अंतिम संस्कार की आज्ञा दे दी। श्री राम ने रावण के दोषों को भुलाकर उसके गुणों (जो विभीषण ने गिनाए थे) को महत्व दिया। यह श्री राम की शरणागत-वत्सलता और धर्म-परायणता का प्रमाण है कि वे शत्रु को भी 'स्वर्गीय' गति प्रदान करने वाले संस्कार की अनुमति देते हैं।
