गतः सत्त्वस्य सङ्क्षेपः प्रस्तावानां गतिर्गता ।
आदित्यः पतितो भूमौ मग्नस्तमसि चन्द्रमाः ॥६-११२-७॥
gataḥ sattvasya saṅkṣepaḥ prastāvānāṃ gatirgatā |
ādityaḥ patito bhūmau magnastamasi candramāḥ ॥6-112-7॥
Translation
The essence of strength is gone; the flow of discourse has ceased. It is as if the sun has fallen to the earth and the moon has merged into darkness.
हिंदी अनुवाद
बल का सार चला गया, वार्ताओं (शास्त्रार्थ या चर्चा) की गति रुक गई। मानो सूर्य पृथ्वी पर गिर पड़ा है और चन्द्रमा अन्धकार में डूब गया है।
English Commentary
Vibhishana laments the loss of Ravana's intellectual and physical vibrancy. 'Prastavana' implies eloquent introductions or contextual discussions, hinting at Ravana's scholarship which is now silenced. The metaphors of the fallen sun and darkened moon illustrate the magnitude of the loss for the Rakshasa race. Ravana was the source of their light and glory; without him, their world is plunged into chaos and obscurity.

रावण केवल योद्धा नहीं था, वह शास्त्रों का ज्ञाता और वाक-पटु भी था। उसकी मृत्यु से 'प्रस्तावना' (चर्चा/विषय आरम्भ करने की कला) का अंत हो गया है। विभीषण रूपकों का प्रयोग करते हैं—रावण का तेज सूर्य के समान था और उसकी सौम्यता (जो कभी थी) चन्द्रमा के समान। इन खगोलीय पिण्डों का गिरना या बुझना लंका के लिए रावण की मृत्यु की भयावहता को दर्शाता है। यह एक युग के अंत का सूचक है जहाँ ज्ञान और शक्ति का एक अद्वितीय समन्वय (चाहे वह दूषित ही क्यों न हो) समाप्त हो गया है।
