Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
काचिदङ्के शिरः कृत्वा रुरोद मुखमीक्षती ।
स्नापयन्ती मुखं बाष्पैस्तुषारैरिव पङ्कजम् ॥६-११३-१०॥
kācid aṅke śiraḥ kṛtvā ruroda mukhamīkṣatī |
snāpayantī mukhaṃ bāṣpaistuṣāraīriva paṅkajam ॥6-113-10॥
Translation
One woman, placing his head in her lap and looking at his face, wept, bathing his face with her tears as dew drops bathe a lotus.
हिंदी अनुवाद
कोई रावण का सिर अपनी गोद में रखकर उसके मुख को देखते हुए रोने लगी और अपने आंसुओं से उसके मुख को वैसे ही नहलाने लगी जैसे ओस की बूंदें कमल को भिगो देती हैं।
English Commentary
This is a highly poetic metaphor. Ravana's face is compared to a lotus ('Pankajam') and tears to dew ('Tusharaih'). It signifies that in his wife's eyes, Ravana remained beautiful and worthy of worship. The word 'Snapayanti' (bathing) describes the abundance of grief where tears flowed unceasingly.

यह एक अत्यंत काव्यमयी उपमा है। रावण के मुख की तुलना कमल (पङ्कजम्) से और आंसुओं की ओस (तुषारैः) से की गई है। यह दर्शाता है कि अपनी पत्नी की दृष्टि में रावण अभी भी सुंदर और पूजनीय था। 'स्नापयन्ती' (नहलाना) शब्द दुःख की उस प्रचुरता को बताता है जहाँ आँसू रुकने का नाम नहीं ले रहे थे।
