गन्धर्वाणामृषीणां च सुराणां च महात्मनाम् ।
भयं येन महद्दत्तं सो ऽयं शेते रणे हतः ॥६-११३-१३॥
gandharvāṇāṃ maharṣīṇāṃ ca surāṇāṃ ca mahātmanām |
bhayaṃ yena mahad dattaṃ so 'yaṃ śete raṇe hataḥ ॥6-113-13॥
Translation
He who caused great terror to Gandharvas, great sages, and the high-souled Gods, lies here slain in the battle.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जिसने गन्धर्वों, महर्षियों और महात्मा देवताओं को महान भय दिया था, वही आज युद्ध में मारा जाकर यहाँ सो रहा है।
English Commentary
Ravana's terror pervaded the entire universe; none—be it Gandharvas, Sages, or Gods—were untouched by his wrath. The women's realization that 'this very person lies here' depicts the unimaginable reversal of fate. He who made the worlds cry was now himself finished.

रावण का आतंक सम्पूर्ण चराचर जगत में व्याप्त था। 'गन्धर्व', 'ऋषि' और 'देवता'—कोई भी उसके प्रकोप से अछूता नहीं था। राक्षसियों का यह कहना कि 'सोऽयं शेते' (वही यहाँ सो रहा है) स्थिति के अकल्पनीय परिवर्तन को दर्शाता है। जो सदा दूसरों को रुलाता था, आज उसका स्वयं का अंत हो गया है।
