धृष्टं परुषितो मोहात्त्वया ऽ ऽत्मवधकाङ्क्षिणा ।
यदि निर्यातिता ते स्यात् सीता रामाय मैथिली ॥६-११३-२०॥
dhṛṣṭaṃ paruṣito mohāt tvayā ' 'tmavadhakāṅkṣiṇā |
yadi niryātitā te syāt sītā rāmāya maithilī ॥6-113-20॥
Translation
Were insolently insulted by you (Ravana) out of delusion, as you were seeking your own death. Had you returned Sita, the daughter of the King of Mithila, to Shri Rama—

अपनी मृत्यु की इच्छा करने वाले तुम्हारे (रावण) द्वारा मोहवश धृष्टतापूर्वक अपमानित किए गए थे। यदि तुमने मिथिलेश कुमारी सीता को श्री राम को लौटा दिया होता—
English Commentary
Ravana's insult of Vibhishana was the decisive moment in Lanka's downfall, which the subjects now reflect upon. Rejecting Vibhishana's counsel was evidence of Ravana's self-destructive drive. The women now lament the 'if' that could have altered the destiny of all of Lanka.
हिंदी टीका
रावण द्वारा विभीषण जी का अपमान लंका के पतन की वह निर्णायक घड़ी थी जिसे अब प्रजा याद कर रही है। विभीषण की सलाह को ठुकराना रावण की 'आत्मवध-काङ्क्षिणा' (स्वयं की मृत्यु चाहने वाली) वृत्ति का प्रमाण था। राक्षसियाँ अब उस 'यदि' (If) पर विलाप कर रही हैं जो पूरी लंका का भाग्य बदल सकता था।
