Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ब्राह्मया संवेशयांचक्रू राङ्कवास्तरणवृताम् ।
वर्तते वेदविहितो राज्ञो वै पश्चिमः क्रतुः ॥६-११४-१०५॥
brāhmayā saṃveśayāñcakrū rāṅkavāstaraṇavṛtām |
vartate vedavihito rājño vai paścimaḥ kratuḥ ॥6-114-105॥
Translation
They placed him on the pyre covered with Rankava (deer skin/wool) clothes according to the Brahmic rites. The final sacrifice (funeral) of the king, prescribed by the Vedas, was taking place.
हिंदी अनुवाद
ब्राह्म (वैदिक) विधि से, रांकव (मृगचर्म/ऊनी) वस्त्रों से ढकी हुई चिता पर उसे लिटाया। राजा का वेद-विहित अंतिम (पश्चिम) यज्ञ (क्रतु) संपन्न हो रहा है।
English Commentary
Ravana, a Brahmin by birth and a scholar of Vedas, receives a Vedic funeral ('brahmayā vidhinā'). The text calls it the 'paścimaḥ kratuḥ' (the final sacrifice/yajna). This elevates the funeral to a sacred ritual where the mortal body is offered to Agni.

रावण वेदज्ञ ब्राह्मण था। उसका संस्कार 'ब्राह्मया' (वैदिक विधि) से हो रहा है। अंत्येष्टि को 'पश्चिमः क्रतुः' (अंतिम यज्ञ) कहा गया है। हिंदू धर्म में जीवन का अंत भी एक यज्ञ माना जाता है जहाँ शरीर की आहुति दी जाती है।
