अकस्माच्चाभिकामोऽसि सीतां राक्षसपुङ्गव ।
ऐश्वर्यस्य विनाशाय देहस्य स्वजनस्य च ॥६-११४-२०॥
akasmāccābhikāmo'si sītāṃ rākṣasapuṅgava |
aiśvaryasya vināśāya dehasya svajanasya ca ॥6-114-20॥
Translation
O Bull among Demons! Suddenly you conceived a desire for Sita—which led to the destruction of your sovereignty, your body, and your kinsmen.

हे राक्षसश्रेष्ठ! आप अकस्मात् सीता की कामना करने लगे—जो आपके ऐश्वर्य, शरीर और स्वजनों के विनाश का कारण बनी।
English Commentary
Mandodari pinpoints the exact moment of downfall: the desire for Sita. She labels it as the cause for the total annihilation of Ravana's wealth (aishvarya), physical existence (deha), and family (svajana). It serves as a stark moral lesson on how uncontrolled lust is not just a personal vice but a destructive force that consumes one's entire ecosystem.

सीता के प्रति रावण की काम-वासना ही विनाश का मूल कारण थी। मन्दोदरी इसे 'अकस्मात्' (दुर्भाग्य से/अचानक) उत्पन्न हुई बुद्धि भ्रष्टता मानती हैं। सीता कोई साधारण स्त्री नहीं थीं, वे रावण के कुल के लिए साक्षात् मृत्यु थीं। एक गलत इच्छा (काम) कैसे पूरे साम्राज्य, परिवार और स्वयं के जीवन को नष्ट कर सकती है, यह इसका प्रमाण है।
