आनयित्वा तु तां दीनां छद्मनात्मवधैषिणा ।
अप्राप्य चैव तं कामं मैथिलीसंगमे कृतम् ॥६-११४-२३॥
ānayitvā tu tāṃ dīnāṃ chadmanātmavadhaiṣiṇā |
aprāpya caiva taṃ kāmaṃ maithilīsaṃgame kṛtam ॥6-114-23॥
Translation
...Having brought that wretched one by deceit, wishing for your own death, and yet not obtaining that desire you held for union with Maithili.
हिंदी अनुवाद
...अपने वध की इच्छा रखने वाले (तुमने) छल से उस दीन (सीता) को हर लाया; और मैथिली के मिलन की जो कामना की थी, उसे प्राप्त भी नहीं कर सके।
English Commentary
The futility of evil is exposed here. Ravana used deceit (chadmana), acting like a man with a death wish (atmavadhaishina). Despite all this effort and incurring immense sin, he never achieved his goal—union with Sita. Mandodari highlights the total bankruptcy of his actions: he lost his righteousness for a desire that remained unfulfilled, leaving him with nothing but death.

रावण ने सीता को पाने के लिए छल (मृग रूप) का सहारा लिया, जो 'आत्मवधैषिणा' (अपना वध चाहने वाले) का लक्षण था। सबसे बड़ी विडंबना यह है कि इतना पाप करने के बाद भी रावण को सीता की प्राप्ति नहीं हुई। उसका पाप भी हुआ और मनोरथ भी पूरा नहीं हुआ। यह 'उभय-भ्रष्ट' स्थिति है—न धर्म मिला, न काम। केवल विनाश हाथ लगा।
