ननु नाम महाभाग तव वैश्रवणानुज ।
क्रुद्धस्य प्रमुखे स्थातुं त्रस्यत्यपि पुरन्दरः ॥६-११४-३॥
nanu nāma mahābhāga tava vaiśravaṇānuja |
kruddhasya pramukhe sthātuṃ trasyatyapi purandaraḥ ॥6-114-3॥
Translation
O Illustrious One! O Younger Brother of Kubera! Indeed, when you were enraged, even Purandara (Indra) was afraid to stand before you.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे महाभाग! हे कुबेर के अनुज! निश्चय ही आपके क्रोधित होने पर आपके सामने खड़े होने में देवराज इन्द्र भी भयभीत होते थे।
English Commentary
Mandodari invokes Ravana's lineage as the brother of Vaishravana (Kubera) and his martial dominance over Indra. This serves to contrast his absolute power in life with his absolute helplessness in death. The tragedy lies in the fall of a being so mighty that the King of Gods trembled before him. It underscores the theme that no amount of worldly power or prestigious lineage can offer protection against the ultimate fruition of one's destiny and karma.
हिंदी टीका
मन्दोदरी रावण के पूर्व-प्रताप को याद करती हैं। 'वैश्रवणानुज' (कुबेर के छोटे भाई) कहकर वे रावण के उच्च कुल को याद दिलाती हैं। जो रावण कभी तीनों लोकों का स्वामी था और जिसके क्रोध मात्र से इन्द्र (पुरन्दर) का सिंहासन डोलता था, आज वह निष्प्राण पड़ा है। यह नियति का क्रूर परिहास है। मन्दोदरी यह स्वीकार नहीं कर पा रही हैं कि जिस व्यक्तित्व का इतना आतंक और प्रभाव था, वह इतना शांत कैसे हो सकता है। यह शक्ति की नश्वरता का स्मरण कराता है।
