Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ऋषयश्च महादेवा गन्धर्वाश्च यशस्विनः ।
ननु नाम तवोद्वेगाच्चारणाश्च दिशो गताः ॥६-११४-४॥
ṛṣayaśca mahādevā gandharvāśca yaśasvinaḥ |
nanu nāma tavodvegāccāraṇāśca diśo gatāḥ ॥6-114-4॥
Translation
The sages, great gods, famous Gandharvas, and Charanas—indeed, out of fear of you, they all used to flee in different directions.

ऋषि, बड़े-बड़े देवता, यशस्वी गन्धर्व और चारण—ये सभी आपके भय से दिशाओं में भाग जाते थे।
English Commentary
This verse illustrates the extent of Ravana's tyranny and dominance. Not just warriors, but spiritual beings (Rishis) and celestial artists (Gandharvas) fled from his presence. Mandodari highlights that Ravana was the supreme disturbance in the cosmic order. His fall, therefore, is not just a political event but a cosmic restoration. Remembering his ability to scatter the demigods makes his current motionless state all the more jarring for his queen.

रावण का प्रभाव केवल युद्धक्षेत्र तक सीमित नहीं था, अपितु आध्यात्मिक और दैवीय लोकों तक व्याप्त था। ऋषि-मुनि और गन्धर्व भी उसके 'उद्वेग' (भय/प्रकोप) से पलायन करते थे। मन्दोदरी यहाँ रावण के 'दिग्विजयी' स्वरूप का वर्णन कर रही हैं। जिसने समस्त चराचर जगत को कम्पित कर रखा था, आज वह स्वयं धराशायी है। यह श्लोक रावण के अहंकार के कारण को भी स्पष्ट करता है—जब कोई सर्वत्र भय का कारण बन जाता है, तो उसे अपनी मृत्यु असंभव लगने लगती है।
