स त्वं मानुषमात्रेण रामेण युधि निर्जितः ।
न व्यपत्रपसे राजन् किमिदं राक्षसर्षभ ॥६-११४-५॥
sa tvaṃ mānuṣamātreṇa rāmeṇa yudhi nirjitaḥ |
na vyapatrapase rājan kimidaṃ rākṣasarṣabha ॥6-114-5॥
Translation
O King! O Bull among Demons! You, being such, have been conquered in battle by Shri Rama, a mere human. Are you not ashamed? What is this that has happened?
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राजन्! हे राक्षसों में श्रेष्ठ! वही आप, युद्ध में एक साधारण मनुष्य श्री राम द्वारा जीत लिए गए। क्या (इस बात से) आपको लज्जा नहीं आ रही? यह क्या हो गया?
English Commentary
Mandodari points out the fatal irony of Ravana's life. He requested immunity from gods and demons but neglected humans (manusha), deeming them insignificant. Being defeated by what he considered 'mere food' is the ultimate humiliation for the Rakshasa King. Her question, 'Are you not ashamed?' is a rhetorical device expressing disbelief. It highlights the cosmic rule that arrogance (hubris) creates the very blind spot (in this case, a human) that leads to one's destruction.

मन्दोदरी का यह प्रश्न व्यंग्य नहीं, अपितु गहरे सदमे की अभिव्यक्ति है। रावण को अपनी शक्ति पर इतना अभिमान था कि उसने ब्रह्मा जी से वरदान मांगते समय 'मनुष्य' को तुच्छ मानकर छोड़ दिया था। आज वही 'मनुष्य' उसका काल बन गया। 'न व्यपत्रपसे' (क्या तुम्हें लज्जा नहीं आती?) पूछकर मन्दोदरी मानो रावण के सोए हुए अभिमान को जगाकर उसे जीवित करने का असफल प्रयास कर रही हैं। यह रावण की सबसे बड़ी भूल—शत्रु को कमजोर समझना—की ओर संकेत है।
