अतीतानागतज्ञो वर्तमानविचक्षणः ।
मैथिलीमाहतां दृष्ट्वा ध्यात्वा निःश्वस्य चायतम् ॥६-११४-७१॥
atītānāgatajño vartamānavicakṣaṇaḥ |
maithilīmāhatāṃ dṛṣṭvā dhyātvā niḥśvasya cāyatam ॥6-114-71॥
Translation
Mandodari, who was knowledgeable about the past and future and wise regarding the present, seeing Ravana killed because of Maithili (Sita), contemplated deeply and sighed heavily.
हिंदी अनुवाद
भूत और भविष्य को जानने वाली तथा वर्तमान में कुशल (मंदोदरी), मैथिली (सीता) के कारण रावण को मारा गया देखकर, ध्यानमग्न होकर और लंबी सांस लेकर (विलाप करने लगी)।
English Commentary
Mandodari is portrayed here not just as a grieving widow but as a wise woman ('vicakṣaṇaḥ') who understands the causality of events. Being aware of the past and future, she realizes that Ravana's death was the inevitable consequence of abducting Sita. Her heavy sigh reflects a mix of sorrow and the heavy burden of a tragedy she likely foresaw but could not prevent.

मंदोदरी केवल विलाप नहीं कर रही, बल्कि एक विदुषी स्त्री की भांति स्थिति का विश्लेषण कर रही है। उसे 'अतीतानागतज्ञ' कहा गया है, जिसका अर्थ है कि वह जानती थी कि रावण के कर्मों का फल यही होना था। सीता के अपहरण को वह रावण के विनाश का प्रत्यक्ष कारण मानती है। यह श्लोक मंदोदरी की बुद्धिमत्ता और दूरदर्शिता को दर्शाता है, जो शोक के क्षणों में भी सत्य को देख रही है।
