कामक्रोधसमुत्थेन व्यसनेन प्रसङ्गिना ।
निर्वृत्तस्त्वत्कृतेऽनर्थः सोऽयं मूलहरो महान् ॥६-११४-७३॥
kāmakrodhasamutthena vyasanena prasaṅginā |
nirvṛttastvatkṛte'narthaḥ so'yaṃ mūlaharo mahān ॥6-114-73॥
Translation
"This great calamity, which strikes at the very root (of our race), has occurred due to your own actions, arising from addiction to vices born of lust and anger."
हिंदी अनुवाद
काम और क्रोध से उत्पन्न तथा व्यसन (बुरी लत) के प्रसंग से, तुम्हारे अपने ही कृत्यों द्वारा यह महान अनर्थ घटित हुआ है, जिसने (राक्षस कुल की) जड़ ही काट दी है।
English Commentary
Mandodari diagnoses the root cause of the catastrophe: 'Kama' (lust) and 'Krodha' (anger). She points out that Ravana's addiction ('vyasanena') to these vices led to this 'mūlaharo' (root-destroying) disaster. It serves as a moral lesson that even the mightiest can fall if they let vices dictate their actions.

मंदोदरी रावण के पतन का मूल कारण स्पष्ट करती है—'काम' और 'क्रोध'। एक राजा के रूप में रावण महान था, किन्तु सीता के प्रति उसकी आसक्ति (काम) और श्री राम के प्रति उसका द्वेष (क्रोध) उसके विनाश का कारण बना। मंदोदरी कहती है कि यह विपत्ति दैवीय नहीं, बल्कि 'त्वत्कृते' (तुम्हारे द्वारा की गई) है।
