Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
न चैतत् कर्म रामस्य श्रद्दधामि चमूमुखे ।
सर्वतः समुपेतस्य तव तेनाभिमर्शनम् ॥६-११४-८॥
na caitat karma rāmasya śraddadhāmi camūmukhe |
sarvataḥ samupetasya tava tenābhimarśanam ॥6-114-8॥
Translation
I cannot believe that this is the deed of Shri Rama alone; that you, fully equipped and at the head of the army, could be touched (attacked/defeated) by him.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मैं इस बात पर विश्वास नहीं कर सकती कि यह केवल श्री राम का कर्म है; सेना के अग्रभाग में सब प्रकार (की तैयारियों) से युक्त आपका उनके द्वारा स्पर्श (प्रहार/पराभव) किया जाना (असंभव लगता है)।
English Commentary
Mandodari begins to deconstruct the event. She refuses to credit 'Shri Rama the human' with this feat. For Ravana, fully prepared (sarvatah samupetasya), to be brought down by a single adversary implies that the adversary is more than he appears. This disbelief is the catalyst for her realization in the subsequent verses that Shri Rama is the Supreme Being. She senses the presence of the Divine working through the human form.

मन्दोदरी की बुद्धि अब सूक्ष्म सत्य की ओर बढ़ रही है। उसे आभास होने लगा है कि श्री राम 'साधारण' नहीं हैं। उसे विश्वास नहीं हो रहा कि कोई अकेला व्यक्ति रावण जैसे सुसज्जित योद्धा को स्पर्श भी कर सकता है। 'श्रद्दधामि' (मैं श्रद्धा/विश्वास नहीं करती) शब्द का प्रयोग यहाँ संदेह के लिए नहीं, अपितु श्री राम के मानवीय स्वरूप के पीछे छिपी दिव्य शक्ति के प्रति जागृति के लिए है। उसे लग रहा है कि श्री राम के रूप में कोई महाशक्ति कार्य कर रही है।
