धिगस्तु हृदयं यस्या ममेदं न सहस्रधा ।
त्वयि पञ्चत्वमापन्ने फलते शोकपीडितम् ॥६-११४-८६॥
dhigastu hṛdayaṃ yasyā mamedaṃ na sahasradhā |
tvayi pañcatvamāpanne phalate śokapīḍitam ॥6-114-86॥
Translation
"Fie on this heart of mine, which, though tormented by grief upon your death, does not burst into a thousand pieces."
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरे इस हृदय को धिक्कार है, जो तुम्हारे मृत्यु (पंचत्व) को प्राप्त होने पर भी, शोक से पीड़ित होकर हजारों टुकड़ों में नहीं फट रहा है।
English Commentary
Mandodari curses her own resilience. She feels that surviving her husband's death is a betrayal of their bond. She wonders why her grief-stricken heart ('hṛdayaṃ... śokapīḍitam') doesn't shatter into thousands of pieces. This expresses the extremity of her anguish.
हिंदी टीका
अत्यधिक शोक की अवस्था में जीवित रहना भी अपराधबोध (guilt) लगता है। मंदोदरी अपने हृदय को कोसती है कि रावण की मृत्यु के बाद भी वह धड़क क्यों रहा है, फट क्यों नहीं गया। 'पंचत्वमापन्ने' (पांच तत्वों में विलीन होना) मृत्यु के लिए एक दार्शनिक शब्द है।
