कश्मलाभिहता सन्ना बभौ सा रावणोरसि ।
सन्ध्यारक्ते जलदे दीप्ता विद्युदिवाश्रिता ॥६-११४-८८॥
kaśmalābhihatā sannā babhau sā rāvaṇorasi |
sandhyārakte jalade dīptā vidyudivāśritā ॥6-114-88॥
Translation
Overcome by faintness, she collapsed onto Ravana's chest, appearing like a flashing lightning bolt resting on a cloud red with the evening twilight.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मूर्च्छा से ग्रस्त होकर वह रावण की छाती पर गिर पड़ी (और ऐसी सुशोभित हुई) जैसे संध्या की लालिमा से युक्त बादल पर चमकती हुई बिजली आश्रित हो।
English Commentary
A vivid and tragic simile. Ravana's dark, bloodied chest is compared to a 'cloud red with twilight' ('sandhyārakte jalade'), and the fair, radiant Mandodari collapsing on him is likened to a 'lightning bolt' ('vidyut'). This imagery captures the contrast in their complexions and the poignancy of their final union in death.

वाल्मीकि जी यहाँ एक अद्भुत उपमा देते हैं। रावण का शरीर काला और खून से लाल है (संध्या का बादल), और मंदोदरी का रंग गोरा/चमकदार है (बिजली)। उनका मिलन मृत्यु में भी सौंदर्य और त्रासदी का मिश्रण है। यह दृश्य अत्यंत करुण और भव्य है।
