Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवमुक्ता तु वैदेही प्रत्युवाच विभीषणम् ।
अस्नाता द्रष्टुमिच्छामि भर्तारं राक्षसाधिप ॥६-११७-१०॥
evamuktā tu vaidehī pratyuvāca vibhīṣaṇam |
asnātā draṣṭumicchāmi bhartāraṃ rākṣasādhipa ॥6-117-10॥
Translation
Being spoken to thus, Vaidehi replied to Vibhishana: "O Lord of Rakshasas! I wish to see my husband unbathed (as I am)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
ऐसा कहे जाने पर वैदेही ने विभीषण को उत्तर दिया—'हे राक्षसराज! मैं बिना स्नान किए ही (उसी अवस्था में) पतिदेव के दर्शन करना चाहती हूँ।'
English Commentary
Sita initially refuses the bath. She wants to see Shri Rama immediately and authentically, without the artifice of makeup or royal dress. Her wish to go 'asnātā' (unbathed) reflects her eagerness and her desire for Shri Rama to witness the reality of her suffering and austerity.
हिंदी टीका
सीताजी की यह इच्छा उनके पतिव्रत और विरह की तीव्रता को दिखाती है। वे श्रृंगार में समय व्यर्थ नहीं करना चाहतीं। वे चाहती हैं कि श्री राम उन्हें उसी तपस्विनी वेश में देखें ताकि उन्हें सीता के कष्टों का आभास हो। 'अस्नाता' (बिना नहाए) मिलना प्रेम की स्वाभाविकता है।
