तां तु पार्श्वस्थितां प्रह्वां रामः संप्रेक्ष्य मैथिलीम् ।
हृदयान्तर्गतं भावं व्याहर्तुमुपचक्रमे ॥६-११८-१॥
tāṃ tu pārśvasthitāṃ prahvāṃ rāmaḥ saṃprekṣya maithilīm |
hṛdayāntargataṃ bhāvaṃ vyāhartumupacakrame ॥6-118-1॥
Translation
Shri Rama, observing Maithili (Sita) standing humbly by his side, began to articulate the thoughts dwelling within his heart.
हिंदी अनुवाद
श्री राम ने अपने पास विनीत भाव से खड़ी हुई उन मैथिली (सीता) को भली-भांति देखकर, अपने हृदय में स्थित भावों को कहना आरम्भ किया।
English Commentary
The scene sets a dramatic contrast between Sita's humility (prahvam) and Shri Rama's impending sternness. While Sita stands with the expectation of a warm reunion, Shri Rama prepares to speak the 'thoughts within his heart.' Scholars suggest that Shri Rama, conscious of his role as a King and the public nature of this gathering, suppresses his personal emotions to address the social and dharmic implications of Sita's captivity. He initiates a dialogue not of affection, but of detached righteousness to set the stage for the vindication of truth.

यहाँ एक अत्यंत गंभीर और तनावपूर्ण वातावरण का निर्माण हुआ है। सीता जी 'प्रह्वा' (विनम्रता से झुकी हुई) हैं, जो उनकी पतिव्रता और शालीनता का सूचक है। दूसरी ओर, श्री राम 'हृदयान्तर्गतं भावं' (हृदय में छिपे भावों) को व्यक्त करने जा रहे हैं। श्री राम यहाँ केवल एक पति के रूप में नहीं, अपितु एक 'मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम' और भावी राजा के रूप में स्थित हैं। उनके हृदय में प्रेम और कर्तव्य का द्वंद्व चल रहा है, किन्तु बाह्य रूप से वे राजधर्म का पालन करते हुए कठोर वचनों का प्रयोग करने के लिए विवश हैं ताकि सीता की पवित्रता जग-जाहिर हो सके।
