इत्येवं ब्रुवतस्तस्य सीता रामस्य तद्वचः ।
मृगीवोत्फुल्लनयना बभूवाश्रुपरिप्लुता ॥६-११८-१०॥
ityevaṃ bruvatastasya sītā rāmasya tadvacaḥ |
mṛgīvotphullanayanā babhūvāśrupariplutā ॥6-118-10॥
Translation
As Shri Rama spoke those words in this manner, Sita, with eyes wide open like a female deer, became bathed in tears.

श्री राम के इस प्रकार (कठोर) वचन बोलते समय, सीता—जिनके नेत्र मृगी के समान (विस्मित/भयभीत) खुले हुए थे—आंसुओं से सराबोर हो गईं।
English Commentary
The reaction of Sita is captured with poignant imagery. Comparing her to a 'mrigi' (doe), Valmiki highlights her innocence and vulnerability. Her wide eyes (utphullanayana) suggest shock and disbelief at the aloofness of her husband. Instead of an embrace, she receives a report of military success, causing her to dissolve into tears (ashruparipluta), marking the beginning of her emotional crushing.

यह श्लोक सीता जी की वेदना का मार्मिक चित्रण है। वे श्री राम से मिलन की आशा में थीं, किन्तु श्री राम के औपचारिक और विजय-केंद्रित वचनों ने उन्हें आघात पहुँचाया। 'मृगीव' (हिरनी के समान) उपमा उनकी सरलता, निर्दोषता और भय को दर्शाती है। उनके 'उत्फुल्लनयना' (खुले नेत्र) यह बताते हैं कि वे विश्वास ही नहीं कर पा रही हैं कि उनके प्रिय श्री राम ऐसा बोल रहे हैं।
