यत् कर्तव्यं मनुष्येण धर्षणां परिमार्जता ।
तत् कृतं सफलं सीते शत्रुंघ्नादमर्षणात् ॥६-११८-१३॥
yat kartavyaṃ manuṣyeṇa dharṣaṇāṃ parimārajatā |
tat kṛtaṃ saphalaṃ sīte śatruṃghnādamarṣaṇāt ॥6-118-13॥
Translation
O Sita! That which was to be done by a human being wiping away an insult—that has been successfully accomplished by me through the slaying of the enemy and through my indignation.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सीते! अपमान को धोने वाले मनुष्य के द्वारा जो किया जाना चाहिए था, वह मैंने शत्रु का हनन करके और अपने अमर्ष (क्रोध) के द्वारा सफल कर दिया है।
English Commentary
Shri Rama reiterates his motive to Sita directly. He frames his actions as the standard protocol for any self-respecting human (manushyena) faced with dharshana (violation/insult). By slaying the enemy, he has fulfilled the societal expectation of retaliation. He presents the war's outcome as a closure to the insult, distinct from the issue of accepting Sita back.

श्री राम पुनः उसी बात को दोहराते हैं—यह युद्ध 'अपमान मार्जन' के लिए था। वे सीता को संबोधित करते हुए स्पष्ट करते हैं कि एक पति के रूप में उनका कर्तव्य (शत्रु का वध) पूरा हो गया है। यहाँ 'अमर्षणात्' (क्रोध/असहनशीलता के कारण) शब्द बताता है कि श्री राम ने यह सब इसलिए किया क्योंकि वे अपना अनादर सहन नहीं कर सकते थे।
