निर्जिता जीवलोकस्य तपसा भावितात्मना ।
अगस्त्येन दुराधर्षा मुनिना दक्षिणेव दिक् ॥६-११८-१४॥
nirjitā jīvalokasya tapasā bhāvitātmanā |
agastyena durādharṣā muninā dakṣiṇeva dik ॥6-118-14॥
Translation
Just as the inaccessible southern direction was conquered by the sage Agastya, whose soul was purified by penance, so have you been won back (by me).
हिंदी अनुवाद
जैसे तपस्या से शुद्ध अन्तःकरण वाले मुनि अगस्त्य ने (विन्ध्य पर्वत को रोककर) दुराधर्ष (कठिन) दक्षिण दिशा को जीत लिया था, वैसे ही तुम (मेरे द्वारा) जीत ली गई हो।
English Commentary
Shri Rama employs a classical simile invoking Sage Agastya, who is credited with civilizing the South and rendering it accessible. Comparing his conquest of Lanka (and recovery of Sita) to Agastya's conquest of the southern direction emphasizes the sheer difficulty (duradharsha) of the task. It elevates his military feat to the level of a spiritual sage's accomplishment.

श्री राम एक पौराणिक दृष्टांत देते हैं। ऋषि अगस्त्य ने अपने तपबल से दुर्गम दक्षिण दिशा पर विजय प्राप्त की थी। श्री राम तुलना करते हैं कि लंका (जो दक्षिण में है) और सीता को वापस पाना भी उतना ही 'दुराधर्ष' (कठिन) कार्य था। यह तुलना श्री राम के कार्य की विशालता को दर्शाती है, साथ ही यह भी संकेत देती है कि यह विजय 'तप' और 'आत्म-बल' से प्राप्त हुई है।
