इति प्रव्याहृतं भद्रे मयैतत् कृतबुद्धिना ।
लक्ष्मणे भरते वा त्वं कुरु बुद्धिं यथासुखम् ॥६-११८-२२॥
iti pravyāhṛtaṃ bhadre mayaitat kṛtabuddhinā |
lakṣmaṇe bharate vā tvaṃ kuru buddhiṃ yathāsukham ॥6-118-22॥
Translation
O Gentle Lady! I have spoken this after making up my mind. Set your mind on Lakshmana or Bharata, as matches your comfort.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे भद्रे! मैंने अपनी बुद्धि से निश्चय करके यह बात कह दी है। अब तुम लक्ष्मण या भरत के विषय में, जैसे तुम्हें सुख मिले, अपना मन बना लो (उनकी शरण ले लो)।
English Commentary
Shri Rama offers shocking alternatives, suggesting she seek shelter with Lakshmana or Bharata. This statement is hyperbolic and deliberately provocative. By suggesting she live with his brothers, he emphasizes that she is no longer his wife in the functional sense. It underlines her total displacement from his life, forcing her to realize the absolute finality of his decision unless a miracle intervenes.

यह सुझाव सीता के लिए मृत्यु से भी अधिक कष्टदायी है। श्री राम उन्हें अपने छोटे भाइयों—लक्ष्मण या भरत—के संरक्षण में रहने का विकल्प दे रहे हैं। भारतीय संस्कृति में देवर पुत्रवत या भाई समान होता है। श्री राम द्वारा सीता को लक्ष्मण या भरत के पास जाने का सुझाव देना यह दर्शाता है कि श्री राम ने सीता को पत्नी के पद से पूर्णतः मुक्त कर दिया है और अब वे एक स्वतंत्र स्त्री की भांति कहीं भी आश्रय ले सकती हैं।
