न हि त्वां रावणो दृष्ट्वा दिव्यरूपं मनोरमाम् ।
मर्षयेत चिरं सीते स्वगृहे परिवर्तिनीम् ॥६-११८-२४॥
na hi tvāṃ rāvaṇo dṛṣṭvā divyarūpaṃ manoramām |
marṣayeta ciraṃ sīte svagṛhe parivartinīm ॥6-118-24॥
Translation
For, O Sita, seeing you, who are enchanting and of divine beauty, staying in his own house, Ravana would not have endured (restrained himself) for long.
हिंदी अनुवाद
क्योंकि हे सीते! तुम मनोरम और दिव्य रूप वाली हो; तुम्हें अपने घर में रहती हुई देखकर रावण ने तुम्हें अधिक समय तक (बिना स्पर्श किए) सहन नहीं किया होगा।
English Commentary
Shri Rama articulates the cynical logic of the world. He argues that given Sita's 'divyarupa' (divine beauty) and Ravana's notorious lack of self-control, it is implausible (na marshayeta) that she remained untouched. This is the crux of the accusation. Shri Rama voices the unspoken suspicion of the common man, challenging Sita to prove that her spiritual power was greater than Ravana's physical lust.
हिंदी टीका
श्री राम अंततः अपने संदेह का मुख्य कारण बताते हैं। रावण का चरित्र और सीता का अद्वितीय सौंदर्य—इन दोनों का संयोग होने पर यह मानना असंभव है कि रावण ने संयम रखा होगा। श्री राम यहाँ 'लौकिक बुद्धि' (worldly logic) से बात कर रहे हैं। दुनिया की नज़र में एक कामुक राक्षस के घर में रही सुंदरी पवित्र नहीं हो सकती। श्री राम उसी लोक-लाज की भाषा बोल रहे हैं जिसका उत्तर सीता को देना है।
