न वृथा ते श्रमोऽयं स्यात्संशये न्यस्य जीवितम् ।
सुहृज्जनपरिक्लेशो न चायं निष्फलस्तव ॥६-११९-१३॥
na vṛthā te śramo'yaṃ syātsaṃśaye nyasya jīvitam |
suhṛjjanaparikleśo na cāyaṃ niṣphalastava ॥6-119-13॥
Translation
Then neither Your labor (in war) would have been in vain, nor would You have had to risk Your life, nor would Your friends have had to suffer this distress.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तो न तो आपका यह (युद्ध का) परिश्रम व्यर्थ जाता, न ही आपको प्राणों को संकट में डालना पड़ता, और न ही आपके मित्रों को यह कष्ट उठाना पड़ता।
English Commentary
Sita mourns the loss of life and resources in the war. She argues that if this humiliation was the intended outcome, then the massive carnage was in vain. She points to a perceived 'failure' in Shri Rama's leadership—placing His subjects and allies in unnecessary peril if He never intended to take her back.

यहाँ सीता जी युद्ध में हुई जन-धन की हानि पर शोक प्रकट कर रही हैं। वे कहती हैं कि यदि अंत में यही अपमान मिलना था, तो इतना बड़ा संहार व्यर्थ ही हुआ। वे श्री राम की 'निष्फलता' की ओर संकेत करती हैं कि एक राजा के रूप में उन्होंने अपनी प्रजा और सहायकों को अनावश्यक संकट में डाला यदि उन्हें अपनी पत्नी को स्वीकार ही नहीं करना था।
