Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
अपदेशेन जनकान्नोत्पत्तिर्वसुधातलात् ।
मम वृत्तं च वृत्तज्ञ बहु ते न पुरस्कृतम् ॥६-११९-१५॥
apadeśena janakānnotpattirvasudhātalāt |
mama vṛttaṃ ca vṛttajña bahu te na puraskṛtam ॥6-119-15॥
Translation
My birth in Janaka's lineage is only in name; I was actually born from the earth. O knower of conduct! You have not given due respect to my noble character.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरा जन्म जनक के कुल में केवल नाम मात्र के लिए हुआ है, वास्तव में मेरी उत्पत्ति पृथ्वी से हुई है। हे आचरण के ज्ञाता! आपने मेरे उस श्रेष्ठ आचरण का तनिक भी सम्मान नहीं किया।
English Commentary
Sita recalls her divine birth ('Ayonija'). She is the daughter of the Earth, the embodiment of patience and purity. By calling Him 'Vrittajna' (knower of conduct), she addresses Him as one who understands the nuances of behavior. She expresses the pain that while the whole world knows her character, her own husband is denying it.

सीता जी अपने दिव्य जन्म ('अयोनिया') का स्मरण करा रही हैं। वे पृथ्वी की पुत्री हैं, जो धैर्य और पवित्रता की साक्षात् मूर्ति है। 'वृत्तज्ञ' कहकर वे श्री राम को सम्बोधित करती हैं—अर्थात जो दूसरों के आचरण को जानता है। वे पीड़ा व्यक्त करती हैं कि सम्पूर्ण जगत उनके चरित्र को जानता है, किन्तु उनके अपने पति ही उसे नकार रहे हैं।
