चितां मे कुरु सौमित्रे व्यसनस्यास्य भेषजम् ।
मिथ्यापवादोपहता नाहं जीवितुमुत्सहे ॥६-११९-१८॥
citāṃ me kuru saumitre vyasanasyāsya bheṣajam |
mithyāpavādopahatā nāhaṃ jīvitumutsahe ॥6-119-18॥
Translation
O son of Sumitra! Prepare a funeral pyre for me, which is the only remedy for this calamity. Stricken by this false accusation, I no longer desire to live.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे सुमित्रानन्दन! मेरे लिए चिता तैयार करो, जो इस दुःख (व्यसन) की एकमात्र औषधि है। झूठे कलंक से आहत होकर मैं अब जीवित नहीं रहना चाहती।
English Commentary
Sita's decision to enter the fire is both the ultimate test of her chastity and a proclamation of her self-respect. She calls death a 'Bheshajam' (medicine/remedy), indicating her unbearable mental torment. The 'Mithya-apavada' (false accusation) was heavier for her than life itself. This was a bold and dharmic decision, where fire was to be the final judge of truth and falsehood.

सीता जी का 'अग्नि-प्रवेश' का निर्णय उनके सतीत्व की अंतिम परीक्षा और उनके स्वाभिमान की घोषणा है। वे मृत्यु को 'भेषजम्' (औषधि) कहती हैं, जो उनके असहनीय मानसिक संताप को दर्शाता है। 'मिथ्या-अपवाद' (झूठा कलंक) उनके लिए प्राणों से भी भारी था। यह एक अत्यंत साहसिक और धर्म-सम्मत निर्णय था जहाँ अग्नि ही सत्य और असत्य का निर्णय करने वाली थी।
