एवमुक्तस्तु वैदेह्या लक्ष्मणः परवीरहा ।
अमर्षवशमापन्नो राघवाननमैक्षत ॥६-११९-२०॥
evamuktastu vaidehyā lakṣmaṇaḥ paravīrahā |
amarṣavaśamāpanno rāghavānana maikṣata ॥6-119-20॥
Translation
Being spoken to thus by Sita, Lakshmana, the slayer of enemy heroes, yielded to indignation and looked toward the face of Shri Rama.
हिंदी अनुवाद
जानकी के ऐसा कहने पर, शत्रु वीरों का संहार करने वाले लक्ष्मण क्रोध और दुःख के वशीभूत होकर श्री रघुनाथ जी के मुख की ओर देखने लगे।
English Commentary
Lakshmana is in a state of 'Amarsha' (indignation). He witnesses the injustice toward His sister-in-law but remains silent out of respect for His elder brother's authority. His looking at Shri Rama's face is a silent plea or question: Will He truly allow this horrific act? This situation was a great ordeal for Shri Lakshmana as well.

लक्ष्मण जी यहाँ 'अमर्ष' (क्रोध/असंतोष) में हैं। वे अपनी भाभी के प्रति हो रहे अन्याय को देख रहे हैं, किन्तु अपने बड़े भाई की मर्यादा के कारण मौन हैं। उनका श्री राम के 'आनन' (मुख) की ओर देखना एक मूक प्रश्न है कि क्या वे वास्तव में इस भयानक कृत्य की अनुमति देंगे। यह स्थिति श्री लक्ष्मण जी के लिए महान अग्निपरीक्षा थी।
