प्रणम्य देवताभ्यश्च ब्राह्मणेभ्यश्च मैथिली ।
बद्धाञ्जलिपुटा चेदमुवाचाग्निसमीपतः ॥६-११९-२३॥
praṇamya devatābhyaśca brāhmaṇebhyaśca maithilī |
baddhāñjalipuṭā cedamuvācāgnisamīpataḥ ॥6-119-23॥
Translation
Having offered salutations to the Gods and the Brahmanas, Sita stood near the fire with folded hands and spoke as follows.
हिंदी अनुवाद
देवताओं और ब्राह्मणों को प्रणाम करके, हाथ जोड़कर मैथिली ने अग्नि के समीप खड़े होकर यह बात कही।
English Commentary
This is Sita's 'Act of Truth.' Before entering the fire, she seeks the blessings of divine powers and elders. Her 'folded hands' symbolize total surrender and purity. She was now making the entire universe a witness to her chastity.
हिंदी टीका
यह सीता जी का 'सत्य-वाक्य' (Satyavakya) है। अग्नि में प्रवेश करने से पूर्व वे ईश्वरीय शक्तियों और गुरुजनों का आशीर्वाद ले रही हैं। हाथ जोड़ना (बद्धाञ्जलि) उनकी पूर्ण शरणागति और शुचिता का प्रतीक है। वे अब सम्पूर्ण ब्रह्मांड को अपने सतीत्व का साक्षी बना रही थीं।
