Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
यथा मां शुद्धचारित्रां दुष्टां जानाति राघवः ।
तथा लोकस्य साक्षी मां सर्वतः पातु पावकः ॥६-११९-२५॥
yathā māṃ śuddhacāritrāṃ duṣṭāṃ jānāti rāghavaḥ |
tathā lokasya sākṣī māṃ sarvataḥ pātu pāvakaḥ ॥6-119-25॥
Translation
As I am of pure conduct, even though Shri Rama considers me tainted; may the witness of the world, Agni, protect me from all sides.
हिंदी अनुवाद
यद्यपि मैं शुद्ध आचरण वाली हूँ, फिर भी श्री रघुनाथ जी मुझे दूषित (दुष्टा) मान रहे हैं; अतः लोक के साक्षी अग्निदेव सब ओर से मेरी रक्षा करें।
English Commentary
This verse blends Sita's pain with her truth. She acknowledges that in her husband's eyes, she is guilty, yet she knows herself to be 'Shuddhacharitra' (of pure conduct). It conveys the message that even when the entire world (including one's beloved) turns against you, one must stand by the truth. Agni is now the ultimate arbiter of justice.

यहाँ सीता जी की पीड़ा और सत्य का मेल है। वे स्वीकार करती हैं कि उनके पति की दृष्टि में वे अपराधी हैं, किन्तु वे स्वयं को 'शुद्धचारित्रा' जानती हैं। यह श्लोक यह संदेश देता है कि जब सम्पूर्ण जगत (यहाँ तक कि अपना प्रियतम भी) विरुद्ध हो जाए, तब भी सत्य का साथ नहीं छोड़ना चाहिए। अग्नि यहाँ न्यायकर्ता की भूमिका में है।
