आदित्यो भगवान् वायुर्दिशश्चन्द्रस्तथैव च ।
अहश्चापि तथा सन्ध्ये रात्रिश्च पृथिवी तथा ॥६-११९-२७॥

ādityō bhagavān vāyurdhiśaśca ndrastathaīva ca |
ahaścāpi tathā sandhyē rātriśca pṛthivī tathā ॥6-119-27॥

Translation

The Lord Sun, the Wind, the Quarters, the Moon, the Day, the two Twilights (dawn and dusk), the Night, and the Earth—

भगवान सूर्य, वायु, दिशाएं, चंद्रमा, दिन, दोनों संध्याएँ (प्रातः और सायं), रात्रि और पृथ्वी—

English Commentary

Sita invokes the eight witnesses of nature ('Ashta-Sakshi') who observe every secret act of a human being. These forces are impartial. She summons the entire cosmic order to testify to her chastity, depicting the magnitude of her faith.

हिंदी टीका

सीता जी यहाँ प्रकृति की उन अष्ट-शक्तियों (अष्ट-साक्षी) का आह्वान कर रही हैं जो मनुष्य के हर गुप्त कृत्य को देखती हैं। ये शक्तियाँ पक्षपाती नहीं होतीं। वे सम्पूर्ण ब्रह्मांडीय व्यवस्था को अपने सतीत्व के प्रमाण के लिए बुला रही हैं। यह उनके विश्वास की विराटता का चित्रण है।
