ददर्श मैथिलीं तत्र प्रविशन्तीं हुताशनम् ।
सा तप्तनवहेमाभा तप्तकाञ्चनभूषणा ॥६-११९-३०॥
dadarśa maithilīṃ tatra praviśantīṃ hutāśanam |
sā taptanavahemābhā taptakāñcanabhūṣaṇā ॥6-119-30॥
Translation
Everyone beheld Sita entering the fire. She possessed the luster of molten gold and was adorned with ornaments of refined gold.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वहाँ सबने मैथिली को अग्नि में प्रवेश करते हुए देखा। वे तपे हुए नवीन सुवर्ण के समान चमक रही थीं और तपे हुए सोने के आभूषणों से सुशोभित थीं।
English Commentary
Comparing Sita's luster to 'molten gold' highlights her internal and external purity. The fire, instead of consuming her, was enhancing her brilliance. It is a paradox that the flames did not burn her but illuminated her further. She appeared as a living flame herself.
हिंदी टीका
सीता जी की कांति की तुलना 'तप्त-हेम' (पिघले सोने) से करना उनकी आंतरिक और बाह्य शुचिता को दर्शाता है। अग्नि उनके तेज को और बढ़ा रही थी। यह विरोधाभास है कि आग उन्हें जला नहीं रही थी, बल्कि उन्हें और अधिक प्रकाशित कर रही थी। वे स्वयं एक अग्नि-शिखा के समान लग रही थीं।
